When you are in charge of something or rule it, you have dominion over it. The most famous use of the word occurs in the Genesis 1:28, when God grants Adam dominion over the garden.

God has restored us for stewardship (dominion) in this current age. This command, often called the “dominion mandate,” has never been nullified. Man’s role is to fulfill his stewardship responsibilities and understand that this work of dominion should be expressed as service—sacrificial service that serves God and the common good for those in the man's sphere of influence. We labor knowing that God redeemed us to carry out the work He uniquely prepared us to do. You have been placed in a sphere of influence to drive results (fruit) for God's Kingdom – your place, position, and passion are not by chance.
